We have some eco-monitors that collect plastics, bottles and paper and make sure that this goes to the correct disposal area. These collection points are labelled and regularly emptied.
One group contacted our disposal company to make sure that the bins were clearly labelled up and easy to read and then tidied up the area.

United Kingdom : Environmental issues and solving these problems

United Kingdom : Environmental issues and solving these problems Sept 2013

Some pupils looked at various environmental issues and problems which ranged from river pollution, dumping rubbish in the canals, endangered species and animals losing their habitat, deforestation, littering and pollution from cars and factories.
The pupils presented their findings to the rest of the school and produced display boards to show their work to everyone.
A display about river pollution and deforestation

A display about endangered animals

How to solve these problems is a very difficult concept for some of our students and they can only answer from a simplistic level. They understand not to litter and to help in recycling when they can and also encourage their families to do the same. They can help clean areas and keep them tidy and look after their immediate environment. It is not reasonable for them to be expected to find a solution to global pollution, drought, deforestation and other such issues.

United Kingdom: recycling campaign and creating maps of the school's region using recyclable materials

United Kingdom: recycling campaign and creating maps of the school's region using recyclable materials April 2013

We collected lots of recycled goods to use for this project and had several groups working on this.

After collecting the rubbish we upcycled some things to make items to sell at a recycled market

Each group chose a local tourist site or famous region of which to create a model.
We chose to make the following areas/ landmarks

Lancashire
Pendle hill
Liverpool
Blackpool

To make our models we have used recycled materials such as;

Sweet wrappers
Plastic containers
Cardboard
Used light bulb
Old maps
 Used paper
Straws
 Carrier bags
 Paper towels

The models took a lot of time and research but

this did not stop us from having a fun time

making everything together as a team!
