The speaker worked well with our students and taught them how to reduce rubbish and how it is sorted at their plant. We were invited to go to the plant to watch what happens to all the rubbish that is collected and how it is sorted.

Our art teacher and the pupils recreated the image on canvasses to display in our school.

United Kingdom: First project visit in Eskisehir, Turkey Nov 2012

United Kingdom: First project visit in Eskisehir, Turkey Nov 2012

During the meeting we covered the following areas:

  • get acquainted with the other partners, their schools and towns;
  • handed in designs for the logo of the project;
  • Handed in sample questions to create the first questionnaire
  • had the possibility to learn about the new changes in the Turkish educational system;
  • each partner shared information about educational system in their own countries and compared them with the other participating countries;.
  • received instructions regarding important requirements of the Comenius programme, such as certificates of attendance etc.

Activities and Events:
During the first meeting we were warmly welcomed at the school followed by a fantastic concert which covered many traditional Turkish dances, songs and music. The importance of the project was highlighted by the presence of local dignitaries and the press. I was particularly impressed by the involvement of the parents who cooked a traditional lunch for us and even invited us into their home to see a typical house.
There were many opportunities to taste local and delicious food, both home-cooked for us by the parents or in restaurants.
Many trips and visits to museums, mosques and other educational or cultural sites gave us an insight into Turkish customs and life.  We laid a wreath at Ataturk’s mausoleum in Ankara, which was an unforgettable experience for all involved, as was the early morning visit to a Hamam. We had an opportunity to visit a calcite quarry to see natural resources being mined and back at school we observed and participated in some lessons as well as looking at completed work from the project.
